Jennifer Bennett
Contemporary Painter & Printmaker

Original paintings & linoprints created by established South West artist Jennifer Bennett of The Pebble House

Jennifer is a mixed media artist and printmaker, who has been selling and exhibiting her work consistently. She is known for her layered textural paintings with emphasis on colour and collage surfaces inspired by the coastlines, seasons and changing skies of the South West where she lives and works by the sea.

She also creates linoprints inspired by nature and everyday moments that she has recorded in her sketchbooks.

The Pebble House  - Artist statement

At the core of my art practice is a desire to create, and to make connections with the viewer.

My creative practice is a dual exploration of the natural world, balancing the texture of coastal landscapes with the graphic rhythm of nature-inspired linoprints. Whether painting or carving, my focus remains on capturing the atmosphere, light, and fleeting moments found in coastal Devon where I live.

My textured semi abstract paintings often explore the raw, untamed essence of the coast. I use a variety of materials, palette knifes, found materials and mixed media to build tactile surfaces, aiming to translate the crashing sea, the crumbling cliffs, or the quiet presence of a moment in time into an emotive experience. These pieces are not direct representations, but rather memories of place—focusing on colour, texture, and the way light can transform a scene.

My linoprints are drawn from a quieter, more detailed observation of nature, seasons, flowers and coastal walks. Using a slower, deliberate process, which begins as sketchbook drawing, I create linocuts that draw attention to the structured, repeating patterns of nature—the intricate detail of a leaf, the seasonal transition in a garden, or the graphic forms of botanical studies.

I find these two approaches complement each other;  painting provides an outlet for energy, emotion, and abstraction, while printmaking offers a focus on precision, line and form. Both, however, are deeply connected by my love for the natural world and a desire to bring its quiet beauty and emotion into the interior space through artwork.
